ESSO PICTORIAL PLAN OF THE EASTERN COUNTIES AND THE MIDLANDS
A·E·TAYLOR·32
Pictorial colour printed map drawn by Alfred Edward Taylor (1887-1895) first issued by Pratt's Motor Oil Company as promotional advertising.
Following the rebranding of the company's fuel brand names to "Esso" the maps were re-issued at a slightly smaller scale in Pictorial Britain and Ireland...H.K. McCann Company Limited, London 1936.
Describing the maps, S.P.B. Mais writes, "I have seldom, if ever, seen a happier blending of the artist and wit in a cartographer. They are jolly, they are informative, they are original, and they have a magic enticing quality about them..."
Extent: London to Lincoln, Gloucester to Great Yarmouth.
