Celebrated Chess Match at Parsloe's.
Etching, date and etcher unknown after an engraving by Thomas Cook of 1794.
Parlsoe's Coffee House in St. James' Street was the head-quarters of London Chess and the first organised Chess Club was founded there in 1774.
Philidor gave exhibitions of blindfold chess at the Coffee House and he is shown here playing blindfold chess in the presence of the Turkish Ambassador on February 23rd 1794.
