A Mapp of the County of | HARTFORDSHIRE | with its Hundreds.
W Hollar fecit
Engraved by Wenceslaus Hollar (1607-1677) for Richard Blome (1635-1705).
Originally a heraldic painter, Richard Blome  was a compiler and publisher of many geographical and heraldic works. His contemporaries were not complimentary about his publishing methods, his methods of obtaining sponsorship, or his productions. Blome produced two sets of plates of the English counties between about 1667 and 1671, the larger set were published from 1673 in his Britannia, but this smaller series were not issued until 1681 in Speed's maps Epitom'd; or the maps of the counties of England, alphabetically placed. The work was republished by Samuel Lownes in 1685 and publication of the maps continued in Cosmography and Geography...Blome, London 1693, in England exactly described or a guide to travellers...Thomas Taylor, London 1715, 1716 and 1718, and finally in the same work by Thomas Bakewell in 1750.
This example is the fourth engraved state of the plate published in the 1693 edition of Cosmography and Geography...Richard Blome, London 1693 and England Exactly described...Thomas Taylor, London 1751 & 1718.
Very good, clean example without folds and good margins.
