London Publish’d by W. Lewis Finch Lane.
Copper engraving by James Wallis (fl.1789-1812) first published in Wallis's new Pocket edition of the English Counties or travellers companion…1812. Wallis was bankrupted in 1801 and in 1805 but seem's to have overcome his difficulties to produce this series of miniature maps together with a larger series in the same year. Issued once more by Wallis in 1814, the maps then briefly became the property of P. Martin followed by Simpkin & Marshall before passing to William Lewis who published them in his Lewis's New Travellers guide… from 1919 to 1836.
North is to the right.
This example is the final state published by Lewis in his New traveller’s guide… published 1819, 1835 & 1836.
Later hand colour.
