Large hand coloured lithograph by Samuel Prout (1782-1852) published in Sketches in France Switzerland and Italy printed by Charles Joseph Hullmandel (1789-1850) for Hodgson & Graves, London, 1839. The finest series of Prout's lithographic prints.
Samuel Prout, born at Plymouth, the fourth of fourteen children of Samuel Prout, naval outfitter, and Mary Cater. He established his reputation as a painter with street scenes on his visit to the continent in 1818 and was appointed 'Painter in Water-Colours in Ordinary' to King George IV in 1829 and later to Queen Victoria.
Fine hand colour, some occasional light spotting, otherwise fine, on heavy paper with good margins (paper size: 36x53cm).
