POWER LOOM WEAVING
Drawn by T. Allom. | Engraved by J. Tingle.
FISHER, SON & Co. LONDON, 1834.

Steel line engraving by James Tingle (fl.1824-1850) after a drawing by Thomas Allom (1804-1872).
Thomas Allom, born in Lambeth, was an architect and artist. He was a founding member of the Royal Institute of British Architects and designed many buildings in London, Hull, Liverpool and elsewhere but is probably best know for his extensive topographical illustrations for various travel books.
Showing the power loom, one of the key developments in the industrialisation of weaving in the Industrial revolution. The first power loom was designed and patented in 1785 by Edmund Cartwright.

Some light foxing but a fine, detailed engraving in neat hand colour.
