CALICO PRINTING.
Drawn by T. Allom. | Engraved by J. Carter
FISHER, SON & Co. LONDON, 1834.

Steel line engraving by James Carter (1798-1855) after a drawing by Thomas Allom (1804-1872).
James Carter, born in Shoreditch is well known for his architectural and landscape engravings including engravings after Samuel Prout, James Holland and David Roberts.
Thomas Allom, born in Lambeth, was an architect and artist. He was a founding member of the Royal Institute of British Architects and designed many buildings in London, Hull, Liverpool and elsewhere but is probably best know for his extensive topographical illustrations for various travel books.
Showing the use of Thomas Bell's printing machines using copper rollers patented in 1783 and first used in Lancashire by textile company Livesy Hargreaves and Co.

Some light foxing to paper but still a fine, detailed engraving in good hand colour.
