A Plan of the Town & Fortress of GARLAH belonging to ANGRIA the Admiral to the Sahoouh Rajah on the Coast of MALABAR.

Published in a supplement to The Gentleman's Magazine and Historical Chronicle for the year 1756.

Depicting Vijaydurg Fort, Maharashtra, western India. The fort was of interest to readers of the magazine following the Battle of Vijayburg or ”Capture of Gheria" in February 1756. The fort was held by Tulaji Angre, the chief of the Maratha Navy, who frequently plundered East India Company ships along the Malabar coast, and was considered a pirate by his European enemies. The joint forces of The East India Company and Nanasaheb Peshwa attacked the fort and on 11th February 1756 Colonel Clive landed his marines and captured the fort.
