Line and stipple engraving by Henry Richard Cook (fl.1804-1849) after a painting by Francis Parsons (fl.1763-1783 showing James Brindley and theodolite with Barton Aqueduct over the river Irwell in the backgoround.

James Brindley (1716-1772) English engineer born in Tunstead Derbyshire. One of the most notable engineers of the 18th century, Brindley built 365 miles of canals and many watermills.

Hand coloured. Water stain to page top  and some light foxing aroud paper edges not affecting the printed area.
