This map by Joseph Hutchins Colton (1800-1893) was first published Colton's Atlas of the World...New York, 1855. 
This map, in the first engraved state, lacks the decorative border associated with Colton's maps. The decorative border was removed for publication in Colton's General Atlas...New York 1857-1859 but was reinstated in 1860 for all later publications.
The map is based on the map by Baldwin and Craddock published in 1832 for The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge.
