The MARKET CROSS at CHICHESTER
Inscrib'd to his GRACE Charles DUKE of RICHMOND, LENOX and AUBIGNY &c. High-STEWARD of the CITY of CHICHESTER, and KNIGHT of the most Noble ORDER of the GARTER &c.
Will.m Ride delin. | A.o 1749. G Vertue. Sculpsit Lond.n
Large copper engraving by George Vertue (1684-1756) after a drawing by surveyor William Ride (1722/23-1778) showing Chichester Cross built by Edward Story the Bishop of Chichester from 1477-1503 and restored by Charles Lennox, 2nd Duke of Richmond in 1746.
The print is toned overall, has several folds and creases with tears, loss and spotting to margins. The margins have been preserved on the reverse with archival tissue. It is still a large, early, attractive and uncommon print.
