Louis Icart (1890-1950), born in Toulouse, moved to Paris in 1907 and began his career in painting and drawing, swiftly gaining a reputation for his etchings of women. In 1914 he met Fanny Volmers, an employee of the fashion house Paquin who later became his wife and was the subject and inspiration for many of his etchings.
