Booksellers and publishers Simpkin and Marshall was founded in 1819 and traded until the 1940's. John Poole was trading in Newgate street in the 1830's. 
The date in the imprint, after J. Poole, has been erased from the plate but traces remain.
Original hand colouring. Unused with vacant cartouche.
