The Foundling Hospital
Publishd Nov 1 1807 by J P Malcolm | Malcolm del et sc
Established in 1745-6 from buildings in Finsbury and Bethnall Green, the hospital moved to the house formerly occupied by Sir John Oldcastle in Coldbath Fields in 1752 and then to a new hospital erected in St Pancras in 1793-4. The building was demolished to make way for St Pancras Railway station and the hospital moved to Highgate in 1848. This etching shows the building erected at St Pancras.
Etching by James Peller Malcolm (1767-1815) Topographer, artist, etcher and engraver. Born in Philadelphia, he moved to London to study at the Royal Academy and contributed to and compiled many works relating to London history, topography and customs.
