(Top border in reverse): VUE DU PALAIS DE S. JACQUES PALL MALL
A View of S.James's Palace Pall Mall Vue du Palais royal de S Jacques Pall Mall
Publishd according to Act of Parliament 1753
Vue d'optique engraving designed to give an illusion of depth when viewed through a Zograscope, an optical device for magnifying and enhancing the sense of depth in the image. The reverse engraved image and title at the top would read correctly when viewed through the Zograscope.
Published (and possibly engraved) by Thomas Bowles (1712-1767), the image was also published by Bowles engraved unreversed to be viewed normally without the use of a Zograscope.
Original, fairly crude, colour, some handling marks and light creasing mainly to border, two old adhesive tape marks verso.
An uncommon Vue d'optique engraving.
