SCOTLAND with its Islands, Drawn from THE TOPOGRAPHICAL SURVEYS by JAMES WYLD
LONDON: Published by James Wyld, GEOGRAPHER to HER MAJESTY 11 & 12 Charing Cross & 457 Strand

First pubished in A New General Atlas of Modern Geography J. Wyld, London 1840 with later editions 1842, 1843, 1846 & undated. This undated edition is segmented, pasted on linen and published as a loose map in a slipcase with Wyld's label pasted to front cover.
James Wyld (1812-1887), born at Merton, Surrey, son of mapmaker and publisher James Wyld (1790-1836) briefly traded as James Wyld & Son with his father in 1836 and took over the business on his death later that year. Wyld is known for the construction of "The Monster Globe" in Leicester Square in 1851. He died on 17th April 1877, his map business passing to his son James John Cooper Wyld (1844-1907) who ran the business until 1893 when it was acquired by Edward Stanford.
This map includes his Charing Cross address below the title which he acquired in 1862
Inset map of the Shetlands and Orkneys.
Very good condition with light browning but little wear to folds and neat original hand colouring. The slipcase has some water damage to the back board with some corresponding marks to the linen backing of the map at the top edge but is marking only, and the map is unaffected.
