Published by William Home Lizars (1788-1859) painter, engraver, copperplate printer, mapmaker, draughtsman, lithographer and publisher, born in Edinburgh, son of Daniel Lizars, engraver and publisher, and Margaret Home. He began his career as a painter, exhibiting at the Associated Society of Artists in Scotland and the Royal Academy but abandoned his promising career to take over the family business after the death of his father in 1812. He worked in partnership with his brother Daniel Lizars ( (1793-1875) until Oct 1819. After his death in March 1859 the business was taken over by William and Alexander Keith Johnston.
