The construction of a mound or mud bridge connecting Lawnmarket and Princes Street in Edinburgh was the subject of some controversy in 1784 involving local politicians and reformers. The print depicts Bailie Duff leading the procession with tartan flag and quaigh, John Lauder with James Lawson on his shoulders, Alexander Richie, Andrew Hardie, Malcolm Wright, Henry Watson, William Hall, George Boyd as the coachman, and William Yetts, the footman.
