The landing of French explorer Rene Goulaine de Laudonniere in June 1564, being greeted by Athore, son of Timucuan King Saturwa, at the site of a stone monument placed by Jean Ribault two years earlier, in May 1562 in modern day Jacksonville, Florida, claiming the territory for France.

Pieter van der Aa (1659-1733) was a prolific publisher of maps and atlases working from Leiden in the Dutch province of South Holland.
The work comprised a collection of maps and views of voyages to the Americas, Indies and other new discoveries from accounts of voyages between 1246 & 1696 by De Bry, Hakluyt, Herrera, de Barros, Thevenot, Columbus, Vasco de Gama, Cortes, Vespucci and Drake.
