Etching by Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669)
Reproduced in Heliogravure by Charles Amand Durand (1831-1905)
Published by Adam & Charles Black, London & Edinburgh 1892.
Durand dedicated much of his life to recreating in fine detail the engraved plates of Rembrandt, Durer and others by a photographic process he called Heliogravure in which he reproduced images from early prints rather than the old worn plates and woodblocks, carefully reinforcing the engraved lines to produce an image almost identical to the early originals. His prints were published by G. Duplessis from 1869.
This later version was published by A & C Black in 1892.
