Published in The Royal Illustrated Atlas by A. Fullarton and Co. from 1864 to 1872.

George Heriot Swanston (1815?-1860) Draughstman and engraver born in Edinburgh. He is recorded on the 1841 census as engraver  living with his wife Margaret and four small children. By 1851 he is recorded as a geographer and master engraver, employing four men, three apprentices and ten colourists, living with his wife Agnes, six children and a servant. His son, Andrew Heriot Swanston (1837?-1894) became an engraver for the Ordnance Survey.
