PENSION HUNTER
Etching by John Kay dated 1793 showing Rev. James Lapslie holding his book Essay on the management of Bees. The reference to Pension Hunter is a reference to his zeal in procuring evidence for the prosecution, a contemporary ballad chanted "My name is Jamie Lapslie; I preach and I pray; And as an informer Expect a good fee." Published in A Series of Original Portraits and Caricature Etchings by the late John Kay, miniature painter, Edinburgh; with Biographical Sketches and Illustrative Anecdotes. Hugh Paton, Carver & Gilder, Edinburgh. 1838.
