Steel line and stipple engraving by William Holl the elder (1771-1838). Holl, probably of German descent, is known for his stipple engraved portraits. In the 1820's he was one of the early engravers to use steel plates and was a pioneer in using steel plates for bank notes.
Humphrey Chetham (1580-1653) was an English textile merchant, financier and philanthropist. He donated money to form a Blue Coat School which is now Chetham's School of Music in Manchester.
