Map and book The Peak Guide...Stephen Glover 1845.
Stephen Glover (1794-1870) compiled The History of the County of Derby published in 1829 & 1831. Disputes between Glover and the engravers delayed publication and the work was never completed. He also compiled The Peak Guide in 1830 (see an example in our listings under Antiquarian books).
This decorative and detailed map engraved by Josiah Neele (1804-1876), son of engraver Samuel John Neele, is surrounded with 16 vignettes of local views and was issued in the 1845 edition of the Peak Guide and as loose sheet maps.
Segmented and pasted on linen. Original hand colour. The segments have been carefully aligned between vignettes. Marbled paper covers. Pin holes in corners. small loss to lower left corner, tape stain from old repair to split at one segment (below vignette of High Tor).
