Verso printer's imprint; Printed by R. Clay, Bread-street hill, Cheapside.

Wood engraved map by Joshua Archer (1792?-1863) published in weekly parts in The Guide to Knowledge edited by W Pinnock...London: W.Edwards 1833-34.

The unusual printing method whereby the engraved woodblock was inked with a roller without working the ink into the engraved cuts resulting in a white line on a black ground was a technique suited to celestial charts where stars appear bright against the black background.

William Pinnock (1782-1843) British publisher and educational writer, started as a schoolmaster and bookseller, and from 1817, in partnership with Samuel Maunder in London, began publishing inexpensive educational works.
