02354	John Ogilby	1675	folio (four maps)	Plates 25,26,27,28. The complete route London to Lands End on four sheets. Passing through Brentford, Staines, Bagshot, Basingstoke, Andover, Salisbury, Shaftsbury, Sherbourne, Yeovil, Crewkerne, Axminster, Honiton, Exeter, Plymouth, Fowey, Penzance. The maps are a true  set (all plates from the same work) but unusually, three have a plate number and one (sheet25) is un-numbered. This indicates an unusual 'transition' edition of 1675 in which the binder was using his old stock of un-numbered plates together with the new numbered sheets.   A fine set of one of the best of Ogilby's routes, all engraved by the same hand in a more decorative style than most with highly decorative vignettes on all plates. Passing through Tottenham, Broxbourne, Hoddesdon, Ware, Puckeridge, Royston, Huntingdon, Stilton, Stamford, Grantham, Newark, Tuxford, Doncaster, Tadcaster, York, Northallerton, Darlington, Durham, Newcastle, Morpeth and Alnwick. The maps are a true  set (all plates from the same work) but unusually, sheet 9 is the only numbered plate. This indicates an unusual 'transition' edition of 1675 in which the binder was using his old stock of un-numbered plates together with the new numbered sheets.   All the maps are in fine condition with fine hand colouringA fine set of one of the most famous coaching routes; the Old North Road.	£1,250.00
