40086 William Hole Buckinghamshire 1607 30x28
Fine example from the first edition of 1607. Latin text verso.
£325
44190 John Seller Buckinghamshire 1693 49x37
First issued in about 1680 as part of an attempt by John Seller, John Oliver and Richard Palmer to produce a folio atlas of English counties. Unfortunately the project foundered when only six counties were complete and the plates were sold to Philip Lea in 1693. Lea published the maps in some copies of his Atlas entitled The shires of England and Wales described by Christopher Saxton... in place of the Saxton maps. This example, with the imprint of Philip Lea, is from one of these rare editions. The map is a fine example with original hand colour to the map. The map is trimmed to the plate line and pasted on to a large sheet of contemporary paper, apparently at time of publication as evidenced by the verdigris staining on the verso from the green pigment used on the colouring of the map, possibly to maintain a uniformly large page size for a special issue. A FINE EXAMPLE OF A RARE AND BEAUTIFUL MAP.
