Gillmark Gallery, owned and managed by partners Mark Pretlove and Gill Woodhouse, has been trading since 1997 and in that time the shop has been through a number of changes.

These recent images show the current layout.

Looking back to the entrance, the large map on the right of the door is the first large scale map of Hertfordshire dated 1766 by Andrews and Dury on permanent display and not for sale.
From the front entrance, the stairs to the bookrooms are on the left. The cabinet contains cartographical books (see our list under the book section) folding maps and cartographical and topographical 'bits and pieces'.
From the front entrance the right hand side of the gallery has a browser containing mounted maps.
From the back of the gallery, the plan chest contains unmounted maps and prints. We always stock a number of good quality reproduction globes.
Stairs to first floor. All available wall space is taken up with framed maps and prints.
First floor landing and another print browser fitted into a small recess.
Front bookroom with general stock of secondhand books. There is a comfortable sofa under the window to enable you to take your time....
From the front bookroom looking back across the landing to the back room.
The back room is devoted to British topography with boxes of folding maps and guides on the bench.
A corner of the small but busy top floor - our "Bargain Attic" - all books on this floor are priced  £3.00 or under.
Please take care as you leave the bargain attic -the stairs are very steep.
