First edition. 4to. xvi,404pp. Errata slip. Ten coloured plates with tissue guards. Woodcut illustrations in the text. Original full red morocco with gold tooling, spine in compartments with gold tooled decoration and green label. All edges gilt with marbled endpapers.
Endpapers spotted with damp stain to bottom edge of front endpapers, slightly affecting coloured frontispiece. Binding sunned. Despite these faults it remains a very presentable copy of this beautifully illustrated history of coaching. The striking colour printed plates by Hanhart are finished with hand colour. As well as Harold Edalle Malet's own work, this edition collects together for the first time, all the 'Nimrod' (Charles James Apperley) essays on the subject.
